2023-2024 STUDY GUIDES “CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS”

When teachers and families incorporate the arts into learning, they increase student engagement, offer multiple points for students to access the curriculum, and provide alternate means for students to demonstrate what they know. These guides, “Curriculum Connections,” are helpful tools in the classroom or at home, whether before or after coming to see a play or musical, to highlight important concepts and have some fun. They provide not only the concepts that link to the page to the stage, but also a reminder of what to expect when you come to the theater and activities you can do in the classroom or at home to reinforce the learning.

STUDENT ENRICHMENT THROUGH THE ARTS:

The award-winning Student Enrichment Through the Arts (SEAS) Program, developed in partnership with the School Board of Broward County, launched more than 30 years ago when the Broward Center opened in 1991. Since then, it has served more than 3.6 million students with engaging arts experiences that are directly tied to classroom curriculum. SEAS offers all K-12 students from Broward County Public Schools the opportunity to attend professional performances during the school day, engaging them in active learning through the arts. The largest program of its kind in the country, SEAS has been recognized as a national model. The Amaturo Theater, an outside resource classroom of the district, is the home of our SEAS performances. Some SEAS performances also take place at The Parker, an affiliated venue of the Broward Center.

Broadway in Fort Lauderdale

The national tours of Broadway productions that come to the Broward Center as part of the Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale season are often accompanied by study guides designed to deepen students’ theatre-going experience. Sharing the history of the production, the themes, and connections to the writers, producers and often original cast members, these guides offer insight into the creativity and imagination of each unique production. (Note: These study guides are offered by individual productions and may not be tied to specific Florida State Standards.)
