Apollo is a dance-theater work that explores intergenerational queer dynamics, memory, HIV/AIDS, and legacy. Blending dance, theater, and queer history, the piece reimagines Greek mythology’s Apollo and Balanchine’s 1928 ballet through lived queer experience. Instead of Muses, Apollo encounters three queer elders—past iterations of himself—who challenge, guide, and reflect him. Together, they navigate mentorship, community, and the body as an archive of memory and survival. By confronting ageism and honoring queer legacies, Apollo celebrates connection across generations and redefines who gets to be seen and celebrated on stage.

FREE WORKSHOP
Dance belongs to every body — at every age. This free 90 minute workshop is especially for adults and elders who may not have had the chance to dance before, but are curious to explore movement in a supportive space. Guided by artists of the Pioneer Winter Collective, you’ll step into the creative process behind Apollo, our newest dance-theater work about legacy, resilience, and intergenerational care. After viewing excerpts from the piece, participants will be guided through accessible ballet-inspired movement, choreography, and discussion to create their own “movement portraits.” No prior dance experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to try. Dress comfortably in clothing you can move in. Join us on Sunday, November 23 at 10:00 am in the JM Family Studio Theater at the Broward Center. Please RSVP at  https://forms.gle/YTk3W9vT2b4fuHFp8 to join this class or email luisa@pioneerwinter.com for more information.

AMPLIFY ARTS is a new Broward Center initiative which aims to support and elevate local artists and emerging arts organizations with the goal of helping them reach a wider audience and develop their skills as professional presenters. There will be opportunities for South Florida artists in a wide variety of performing arts genres to bring their talents to Broward Center venues throughout the year.

In the 2025/2026 season, the Broward Center’s AMPLIFYARTS initiative is made possible by Wayne and Lucretia Weiner, Baptist Health and TD Charitable Foundation.
