Alvin Ailey was a visionary choreographer who centered the Black American experience and put social justice in the spotlight. The new documentary film AILEY explores the man, his work and its powerful legacy that impacted American dance and culture. We invite you to watch the documentary and join us for panel discussion with the filmmaker and the current and former Artistic Directors of the company hosted by New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

  1. Watch AILEY. Tune in to local PBS and check local listings, watch online for free between January 11–February 1, or stream it on Hulu with your subscription.
  2. Join us for a FREE virtual panel discussion on Facebook at 7:00 PM on January 19, 2022.

Our panel will be moderated by Salamishah Tillet, New York Times critic and Henry Rutgers Professor of African American Studies and Creative Writing at Rutgers University-Newark. We’ll explore Alvin Ailey’s life and legacy and how the arts can advance social justice.
