Born in South Florida to a Jamaican father and Barbadian mother, brothers Malcom and Umoja learned to play violin through South Florida’s public school system, and attended Dillard High School for the Performing Arts. Together, these brothers are Sons of Mystro. They use their violins to interpret reggae classics, American pop songs and their own creations accompanied by a DJ & a drummer. They are winners of the Emerging Artist under 21yrs Old award at IRAWMA (International Reggae and World Music Awards). Their debut recording, “Reggae Strings” is available now wherever music is streamed or sold Mentored by Black Violin, these artists’ stars are on the rise.

Alexander Star is an Emmy®-nominated songwriter, performer, and impact activist based in South Florida. Star is committed to using his music as a vehicle for positive change and is proud to be considered a modern day “Impact Artist.” Alexander Star tours with his 5-piece live band The Golden People. In addition to their headline shows, they have opened for Earth, Wind & Fire, Black Violin, and Koffee. The band’s familiar originals and playfully modern interpretations of global hits spanning half a century make Alexander Star & The Golden People a sought after performance experience. Star is also a popular keynote performer, giving concerts and talks that uplift, inspire and energize young people at risk.

AMPLIFY ARTS is a new Broward Center initiative which aims to support and elevate local artists and emerging arts organizations with the goal of helping them reach a wider audience and develop their skills as professional presenters. There will be opportunities for South Florida artists in a wide variety of performing arts genres to bring their talents to Broward Center venues throughout the year.

In the 2025/2026 season, the Broward Center’s AMPLIFY ARTS initiative is made possible by Wayne and Lucretia Weiner, Baptist Health and TD Charitable Foundation.
