Act, create and play. This interactive class introduces students to acting and improvisation through engaging theater games and ensemble-based activities. Students strengthen creativity, communication and collaboration while learning the building blocks of character development, storytelling and stage presence. Whether new to theater or looking to expand existing skills, participants will gain confidence while discovering the joy of spontaneous performance.

Plunge into this stunning all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage show! In an all-encompassing theatrical experience, students learn acting, singing and dancing as well as production disciplines such as costumes, props, make-up and staging and use these skills to put on a performance in the Amaturo Theater. When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!
This class is offered in partnership with The Performance Project School of the Arts
Students are expected to attend the first day of class as auditions will be held to cast roles for the final performances.

Techniques in acting, singing and dance are integrated into the rehearsal process and culminate in a one-hour musical production. This unique performance experience offers students the opportunity to work alongside adult professional actors. Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Build a strong foundation in acting and improvisation through creative exploration and hands-on practice. Students learn how to create believable characters, respond in the moment and bring stories to life using their voices, bodies and imaginations. Through theater games, scene work and improvisational exercises, participants strengthen communication skills, boost self-confidence and develop the flexibility and focus that every performer needs. All skill levels welcome.

Explore the movement styles that have shaped musical theater from Broadway classics to contemporary hits. This technique-focused class develops strength, flexibility, coordination and performance quality while introducing students to the vocabulary and styles commonly seen in musical theater choreography. Ideal for students preparing for auditions, productions or advanced training, this class helps performers become stronger, more versatile dancers. Previous dance and/or musical theater experience recommended.

Take your musical theater skills to the next level in this high-energy, interactive, skills-building workshop designed for serious musical theater students. Taught by three experienced musical theater professionals, this advanced-level class offers comprehensive training in singing, dancing and acting with an emphasis on integrating all three disciplines into a confident performance of Broadway scenes and songs. Students explore acting methods and apply them to create strong characters and stage presence. For dance, students sharpen their technique, work on stretching and flexibility and study various musical theater dance styles. Singing instruction focuses on expanding healthy vocal technique, basic music theory and developing skills to tell a story through song. This class challenges and inspires students to grow as an artist in a supportive and creative environment. Students share their progress in a final showcase performance for family and friends in the JM Family Studio Theater.

Broward Center Spotlights is a performing vocal ensemble for students who love to sing in front of an audience. This audition-based musical theater program trains students to perform solos, duets and group numbers along with choreography for various Broward Center and community events. Team-taught by a professional music director and choreographer, students gain top-tier instruction in song and dance, musicianship, improved vocal technique and song interpretation, while building dance skills and stage presence using some of Broadway’s greatest songs. Past appearances include Christmas on Las Olas, Trick or Treat on 2nd Street, live television shows, Coffeehouse Cabarets and Broadway on the Beach. Class fee includes a Broward Center Spotlights t-shirt.
MUSICAL THEATER SINGING: TECHNIQUES

This group singing class is perfect for students in grades 7-12 who love show tunes. Students learn songs from their favorite Broadway shows while focusing on healthy vocal and breathing techniques, creating character through song and developing overall stage presence. Basic music theory and sight-reading instruction are included. All levels are welcome as students sing in group numbers and explore their specific skill level through solos and duets.
