Explore the “fun”damentals of acting and improv! Students learn foundational acting and improv skills and explore how to use their bodies, voices, and minds to create characters and imaginary circumstances. Through interactive warm-ups and skills-building activities, students develop their improv and acting techniques as they build confidence and stretch their imagination. This class will strengthen social interactions and develop effective listening and communication skills. All levels welcome.

Based on the six-time-Tony-Award-winning musical comedy, The Music Man JR. features some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs like 76 Trombones. Currently on Broadway starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, Music Man is a story filled with wit, warmth and upbeat musical moments. This show includes many fun character roles for all young actors. This class is offered in partnership with the Performance Project, Inc.

ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP
MTI PILOT PRODUCTION - BEETLEJUICE JR.

It’s showtime, folks! The ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in this edgy musical comedy based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film. The Broward Center has been selected by Music Theater International (MTI) to produce a pilot production of Beetlejuice Jr. As one of the first theaters in the country to produce the junior version of this hit Broadway show, students have this unique opportunity to continue developing their musical theater skills while working on this exciting pilot production. Rehearsals culminate in two performances on May 25 & 26 in the Amaturo Theater.

As part of the creation and editing process, all scripts, roles, scenes and characters are subject to change at any time prior to the final performance. Fee includes script and costumes.

BROADWAY DANCE

Broadway Dance Essentials is the exploration of traditional and contemporary Broadway dance styles that include elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. It’s the perfect class for students who want to learn the basic steps found in musical theater dance and improve their dance skills for auditions and performances. This beginner-level class focuses on core fundamental exercises and technical steps while introducing a variety of movement styles. No dance experience necessary.

MUSICAL THEATER SINGING

This group singing class is perfect for students who love show tunes. Students learn songs from some of Broadway's greatest composers while focusing on healthy vocal and breathing techniques, creating a character through song, and developing overall stage presence. Basic music theory and sight-reading instruction are included. All levels are welcome as students will sing in group numbers and explore their specific skill level through solos and duets.

BROWARD CENTER SPOTLIGHTS

Broward Center Spotlights is a performing vocal ensemble for students who love to sing in front of an audience. This audition-based musical theater program trains students to perform solos, duets, and group numbers along with choreography for various Broward Center and community events. Team-taught by a professional music director and choreographer, students gain top-tier instruction in song and dance, musicianship, improved vocal technique and song interpretation and build dance skills and stage presence using some of Broadway’s greatest songs. Past appearances include Christmas on Las Olas, Trick or Treat on 2nd Street, live television shows, Coffeehouse Cabarets and Broadway at the Beach. This session culminates with a performance in a Spring Spectacular onstage in the Amaturo Theater. Class fee includes a Broward Center Spotlights t-shirt.

TEEN SPRING MUSICAL: WEST SIDE STORY

West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. The score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim are still widely regarded as among the best ever written. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to 1950s New York City as Tony and Maria find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. This large cast show will be the ultimate experience to add to a teen's theatrical repertoire. This class is offered in partnership with the Performance Project, Inc.
