Explore the “fun”damentals of acting and improv! Students learn foundational acting and improv skills and explore how to use their bodies, voices, and minds to create characters and imaginary circumstances. Through interactive warm-ups and skills- building activities, students develop their improv and acting techniques as they build confidence and stretch their imagination. This class will strengthen social interactions and develop effective listening and communication skills. All levels welcome.

In an all-encompassing theatrical experience, students learn acting, singing, and dancing as well as production disciplines such as costumes, props, make-up and staging and use these skills to put on a final show of The Sound of Music: Youth Edition in the Amaturo Theater. This final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musicals and won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars This class is offered in partnership with The Performance Project School of the Arts. Fee includes script and basic costume.

ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP

In this advanced-level class, students develop their musical theater skills on a pre-professional level by strengthening techniques in singing, dancing, and acting. Each week students focus on specific skills and receive top-tier instruction from our teaching artist professionals. Students explore acting methods, script analysis and how to create strong characters. For dance, students work on stretching and flexibility as well as study various musical theater dance styles. The singing instruction focuses on expanding healthy vocal technique, learning music theory, and developing skills to build a character through song. Students integrate these skills and gain confidence as strong and engaging musical theater performers. This class culminates with a performance in an exciting new Holiday Spectacular in the Amaturo Theater.

ULTIMATE THEATER DANCE

Ultimate Theater Dance is the exploration of traditional and contemporary Broadway dance styles that include elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. This intermediate-level class focuses on core fundamental exercises and technical steps while introducing new and challenging movement styles. Basic dance skills recommended. This class will culminate with a performance in our Holiday Spectacular onstage in the Amaturo Theater!

MUSICAL THEATER SINGING

This group singing class is perfect for students who love show tunes. Students learn songs from some of Broadway's greatest composers while focusing on healthy vocal and breathing techniques, creating a character through song, and developing overall stage presence. Basic music theory and sight-reading instruction are included. All levels are welcome as students will sing in group numbers and explore their specific skill level through solos and duets.

BROWARD CENTER SPOTLIGHTS

NEW! Holiday Spectacular date: Dec 3

Broward Center Spotlights is a performing vocal ensemble for students who love to sing in front of an audience. This audition-based musical theater program trains students to perform solos, duets, and group numbers along with choreography for various Broward Center and community events. Team-taught by a professional music director and choreographer, students gain top-tier instruction in song and dance, musicianship, improved vocal technique and song interpretation while building dance skills and stage presence using some of Broadway’s greatest songs. Past appearances include Christmas on Las Olas, Trick or Treat on 2nd Street, live television shows, Coffeehouse Cabarets and Broadway at the Beach. This session culminates with a performance in a Holiday Spectacular onstage in the Amaturo Theater. Class fee includes a Broward Center Spotlights t-shirt.

PERFORMANCE MENTOR PROGRAM: ROALD DAHL’S WILLY WONKA TYA

Advanced techniques in acting, singing and dance are integrated into the rehearsal process and culminate in a full-length musical production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka TYA. This unique performance experience offers students the opportunity to study and perform alongside adult professional actors. The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Fee includes script and costumes. This class is offered in partnership with The Performance Project School of the Arts.
