Your ideas. Your energy. Your legacy. This isn’t just another musical… it’s a pilot production, which means you’ll be among the first performers in the country to bring The Heart of Rock and Roll Jr. to life. The Broward Center has been selected by Music Theater International (MTI) to produce a pilot production of this brand-new “junior” show.
Students won’t just tell the story – they will help shape the story for every future cast that performs it. As part of the process, students continue developing their musical theater skills while working on every element of the new show. Students improve their singing, refine musical theater dance skills and develop fun characters on stage in an experience that culminates in 3 performances on stage in the Amaturo Theater.
Feel the power of love in this jukebox musical featuring the songs of the legendary pop rock band Huey Lewis and the News. The Heart of Rock and Roll is a smart, funny, heartfelt throwback to the era of big feelings, classic rom-coms. Set in 1987 and jam-packed with Huey Lewis’ megahits such as “Do You Believe in Love,” “Hip to Be Square” and “If This Is It,” The Heart of Rock and Roll centers on a couple on the cusp of their futures — Bobby, a rock and roller who’s traded his guitar for the corporate ladder, and his boss, Cassandra, who has always put the family business first. When they both get a second shot at their dreams, it takes “The Power of Love” and a little help from their friends to figure out what kind of life they really want. Audition now for The Heart of Rock and Roll Jr. – history begins at your callback!

When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
Advanced techniques in acting, singing and dance are integrated into the rehearsal process, culminating in a full-length musical production in the Amaturo Theater.
