Voted “Favorite Arts Program” by South Florida Family Life magazine for six years in a row, the Broward Center’s theater classes continue to be a trusted choice for families seeking engaging programming that builds confidence and creativity.

The spring semester includes acting, musical theater, improvisation, dance and vocal training with offerings for youth, teens and adults at every experience level. Classes are led by professional teaching artists in a supportive learning environment. Some programs culminate in performances on Broward Center stages, while others focus on skills development.

Students enrolled in Broward Center classes have opportunities to:

  • Develop skills in acting, singing, movement and storytelling
  • Build confidence and communication abilities
  • Participate in showcases and live performances on a professional stage
  • Be part of a creative community with people who share their passion

Some of the highlights from our spring classes include:

Dramatic Play: Power-Ups, Princesses and Playtime Quests is a playful introduction to acting for kindergarten students. Inspired by video game adventures and imaginative storytelling, young performers build characters, explore new worlds and learn foundational theater vocabulary through movement, role-play and collaborative storytelling.

Intro to Musical Theater is an introductory skills-building class for students in grades K–5. Students explore the exciting world of Broadway as they learn the basics of singing, dancing and performing. The class reviews stage directions and foundational choreography while building confidence and having fun. Family and friends are invited to observe at the end of the semester.

The Heart of Rock and Roll Jr. is a musical theater performance program for students in grades 6–12 available by audition only. As an official MTI pilot production, students will be among the first in the country to perform this new show and help shape its future. The program culminates in fully staged performances in the Amaturo Theater. Featuring the music of Huey Lewis and the News, this energetic jukebox musical offers a fun, professional-level experience for students ready to take the next step in their training.

Teens seeking additional performance opportunities may audition for Broward Center Spotlights, the Center's top-tier vocal ensemble for students in grades 6-12. In-person auditions run January 11-20.

Special Stars is a performing arts class designed for individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities. Offered in partnership with the Exceptional Theater Company, students use theater techniques to enhance verbal skills, improve movement and build self-confidence in a supportive and creative environment. This class is generously underwritten by the Taft Foundation.

Adult Acting: Try It! (Level 1) is a welcoming introduction to acting for adults interested in exploring performance in a relaxed, comfortable setting. Through warm-ups, improvisation and scene work, participants develop foundational acting skills and stage presence. No experience required.

Encore! A Musical Theater Experience (Ages 55+) is designed for adults 55 and older who want to sing, dance and act in a welcoming and encouraging environment. Using material from beloved Broadway shows, students build skills, gain confidence and connect with others who share a love for the performing arts. No previous experience is needed, and the semester concludes with a showcase performance for family and friends.

Classes begin January 31, 2026. For full class information and registration, visit BrowardCenter.org/classes, email registrar@browardcenter.org or call 954.468.2689.
