EXPERIENCE THE ALL-NEW BROWARD OFF CENTER SERIES AT THE BROWARD CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
Published: Dec 4, 2025
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts presents an all-new, boundary-pushing series where comedy, chaos and cleverness collide. From interactive shows to sharp parodies and laugh-out-loud surprises, the Broward Off Center Series is the audience’s backstage pass to the unconventional.
Just off the main stage in the Abdo New River Room, audiences will be immersed in intimate performances and antics with “In Pour Taste: A Comedy Wine Tasting Experience,” “BATSU!” and “The Office! A Musical Parody.” Audiences are invited to come curious, leave laughing and stay off center.
“We’re excited to launch Broward Off Center as a space where comedy, creativity and unpredictability collide,” said Keith Hinson, marketing manager at the Broward Center. “This series gives audiences a chance to experience something immersive and refreshingly different. It’s a place where they can expect the unexpected and leave laughing.”
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and James Seabright kick off the Broward Off Center Series with “In Pour Taste: A Comedy Wine Tasting Experience” from Thursday, January 8 to Sunday, January 25 at varying times in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center. This is not an average night out nor is it an average wine tasting experience. Comedians Sweeney Preston and Ethan Cavanagh join a wine expert guiding audiences through an illustrious wine tasting experience with five wines and at least five jokes. The show comes to South Florida following a sell-out North American debut in Toronto, a New York season and sell-out tours and festival runs in the U.K. and Australia. Everyone from savvy sauvignon swiggers to clueless chardonnay chuggers will find something to make their glass half-full, as the wine industry's hardest-hitting questions are answered. How far should the pinky finger extend when sipping? What the heck is a tannin? And who’s parked in the loading bay? Each ticket includes five different wines, with an alcohol-free option available upon advance request.
Broward Off Center continues with “BATSU!” an interactive, immersive dining and entertainment experience that fuses the Japanese comedy style of a batsu game and delicious Japanese food with the very best improv comics. “This is truly our favorite thing we’ve ever seen, anywhere,” according to Playbill. In this exhilarating challenge, four American comedy warriors face off in challenges to avoid painful, humiliating and ridiculous punishments. This fusion of Asian cuisine and entertainment comes to life during “BATSU!” in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center from Wednesday, February 11 to Sunday, February 22 at various times. During “BATSU!” the bravest audience members may also volunteer, upon signing a waiver, to participate in some of the challenges to win honor or suffer punishment. Contestants battle for comedic glory and honor as they attempt to avoid hilariously painful and humiliating punishments. In the end, there will be only one winner who will have the honor of striking the “Gong of Punishment.”
Broward Off Center culminates with a rendition of the beloved mockumentary, “The Office! A Musical Parody,” at varying times from Thursday, April 16 to Sunday, May 3 in the Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center. Fans of the television series will be happy to know that all their favorite characters are on board, as are some key plot elements. When the original British version of “The Office” premiered in 2001, it brought something completely new to television comedy. Sure, sitcoms had lampooned office culture before, but never with the cringe-inducing level of awkwardness that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant allowed their characters to display. Then the American “The Office” became an enormous hit series and a comedy landmark. In the hands of writers Bob and Tobly McSmith, the stage version adds an unexpected tuneful touch that takes things to another place entirely, and the outrageousness lives on. Perfect for an office night out on the town.
