Broward Center Presents Jair Oliveira, Luciana Mello & Guests: 60 Years of Dois na Bossa

Published: Aug 14, 2025
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts will present Jair Oliveira, Luciana Mello & Guests: 60 Years of Dois na Bossa in the Amaturo Theater on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 8 PM as part of this season’s TD Bank Jazz Series.
A defining moment in Brazilian music history, Dois na Bossa, the 1965 album by Elis Regina and Jair Rodrigues, helped shape the sound of a generation. Six decades later, its legacy comes alive in a special performance featuring Jair Rodrigues’ children, Jair Oliveira and Luciana Mello. The duo will be joined on stage by a Brazilian jazz trio and guest artists.
“At the Broward Center, we are committed to presenting programming that resonates with our audiences and reflects our community,” said Matt McNeil, Vice President of Programming & Marketing at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. “We have a long history of hosting Brazilian musicians and 60 Years of Dois na Bossa continues that tradition by bringing a celebrated musical legacy to our stage.”
“It is an absolute joy and honor to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Dois na Bossa. Since its 1965 release, the album has been a defining work of Brazilian music. Our performance at the Broward Center will pay homage to Elis Regina, Jair Rodrigues and Jongo Trio, to Bossa Nova, to Brazilian culture and heritage, and to the living legacy that continues to inspire musicians in Brazil and around the world,” said Jair Oliveira.
Oliveira, a singer, songwriter, arranger and producer, has built a celebrated career in Brazil’s contemporary music scene, blending samba, jazz and Música Popular Brasileira. Mello, a Latin Grammy nominee, is known for her dynamic voice and versatility across Latin, pop, samba and soul genres.
The pair bring a personal connection to the stage as they reimagine Bossa Nova classics such as O Morro Não Tem Vez, Arrastão, Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar and Menino das Laranjas. Audiences can expect an evening that honors a timeless musical moment while embracing the vibrant present and future of Brazilian music.
