SLOW BURN THEATRE COMPANY’S 2026/2027 SEASON IGNITES THE STAGE WITH FIVE ELECTRIFYING MUST-SEE MUSICALS THAT ROCK!

Announcing MD Now® Slow Burn Theatre Company’s 2026/2027 Season, featuring a dynamic lineup of five powerful and crowd-pleasing musicals celebrating connection, courage and self-discovery. Presented in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the season includes Come From Away; Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; Mean Girls; Dear Evan Hansen; and Rent.

“This season reflects everything we believe musical theater can and should be,” said Patrick Fitzwater, Slow Burn’s Co-Founder and Artistic Director. “These productions are joyful, fearless and deeply human. They remind us that kindness matters, community saves us and authenticity is powerful, while delivering the unforgettable music and storytelling our audiences love.”

Subscriptions to the five-show season go on sale January 26, with tickets to individual performances going on sale June 13, 2026. 

Based on the true story of airline passengers stranded in Newfoundland after September 11, 2001, “Come From Away” plays October 10 – 25, 2026, bringing audiences into a story of humanity, courage, and connection. Winner of 13 major awards, including Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the Drama Desk Awards, this New York Times Critics’ Pick celebrates compassion and the power of community. As fear and uncertainty give way to generosity and trust, the small town’s residents transform a crisis into lasting friendships and unforgettable music. Step into a world of pure imagination with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” playing December 12 – 27, 2026. Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel, this fantastical musical follows young Charlie Bucket and his Grandpa Joe as they join four other Golden Ticket winners on a tour of Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory. Filled with dazzling sets, whimsical characters, and magical moments, the story unfolds with energy, humor, and unforgettable songs that delight audiences of all ages. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and songs from the motion picture by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley.  Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Based on the Paramount Pictures film, “Mean Girls” hits the stage February 13 – 28, 2027, bringing the iconic high school comedy to life with sharp wit and infectious energy. With a book by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, this hilarious musical explores friendship, identity, and the high price of popularity. When newcomer Cady Heron enters the ruthless hierarchy of the Plastics, she learns that kindness and authenticity are the ultimate power moves. Packed with humor, heart, and unforgettable songs, Mean Girls is an irresistible theatrical experience that will leave audiences cheering. Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, “Dear Evan Hansen” plays April 10 – 25, 2027, bringing audiences a deeply personal and profoundly contemporary story of identity, connection, and the desire to belong. When a single letter changes everything, Evan Hansen must navigate the consequences of a lie that spirals out of control, touching the lives of everyone around him. Featuring a soaring, emotionally charged score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, this musical delivers unforgettable songs and powerful storytelling. Marking its 30th Anniversary, “Rent” will take the stage June 12 – 27, 2027, chronicling the lives of struggling artists in New York City’s East Village from 1989 to 1990 as they fight to create, love, and survive during the AIDS crisis. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and four Tony Awards, this rock musical is a defining cultural phenomenon, exploring themes of resilience, acceptance, and the transformative power of music. Through joy, heartbreak, and unforgettable songs like Seasons of Love and La Vie Bohème, audiences witness the lives of young artists as they fight to find themselves and the art they are meant to create. Emotional, inspiring, and electrifying, Rent is a theatrical experience that continues to resonate decades after its debut. Book, Music and Lyrics by Jonathan Larson. The MD Now® Slow Burn Theatre Company’s 2026/2027 season is proudly presented by United Community Bank. Major support of Slow Burn Theatre Company is provided by the Broward County Cultural Division, the Cultural Council and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the Warten Foundation. Student and community complimentary tickets are subsidized and underwritten by the Salah Foundation and the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation.
