Ghost Light Society Hosts Successful Celebration to Save the Stages

Published: Feb 18, 2021

Guests attending the 11th Annual Ghost Light Society Soirée in December were treated to an entertaining and interactive virtual celebration to save the stages. The "Superhero Soirée" was presented by UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) and raised more than $53,000 for the Broward Center for the Performings Arts' Road to Recovery Fund to help ensure the future of vital artistic, educational and enrichment programs that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Since 2009, the Ghost Light Society has raised more than $1 million for the Broward Center’s arts-in-education programs; however, this year they turned their attention to another important challenge – the Broward Center’s Road to Recovery,” said Kelley Shanley, President and CEO of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. “The pandemic has had a devastating impact on the performing arts around the world and here at the Broward Center. Currently facing the loss of more than 90% of our revenue, we are dependent on contributions to sustain operations as we prepare for the day we can welcome the public back into our theaters. We are grateful to the Ghost Light Society for its contributions during this extremely challenging time.”

Guests tuned in from home and “table-hopped” in the virtual ballroom, mingling with fellow guests via video chat while donning superhero attire. Highlights of the evening included inspiring musical performances by classical/hip-hop duo and 2021 GRAMMY® Award nominee Black Violin, Broadway actress Syndee Winters and the Broward Center’s student performance group, The Spotlights. The event was emceed by Ghost Light Society Chair Max Dauerman and Vice Chair Andrew Schein.

“Over the past 11 years, the Ghost Light Society has been able to do some amazing things to support arts education and the performing arts in Broward County,” said Dauerman. “This success is a testament to our members and donors, many of whom have been with us since the beginning. Because of their generosity, we are able to continue supporting the Broward Center during these unusual and challenging times and positively impact the lives of so many in our community.”

In addition to UKG, major sponsors of the Superhero Soirée included LaCroix Sparkling Water, Akerman LLP, Broward Health, Merrimac Ventures and Publix.
