Audition Opportunities

BROWARD CENTER SPOTLIGHTS

GRADES: 6–12 | BY AUDITION ONLY | $325
SATURDAYS 12:30 PM–2:30 PM

Class dates: Sep 10–Nov 12, 2022
Rehearsal dates: Nov 30, plus extra rehearsals and performances scheduled as needed.

Broward Center Spotlights is a performing vocal ensemble for students who love to sing in front of an audience. This audition-based musical theater program trains students to perform solos, duets, and group numbers along with choreography for various Broward Center and community events. Team-taught by a professional music director and choreographer, students gain top-tier instruction in song and dance, musicianship, improved vocal technique and song interpretation while building dance skills and stage presence using some of Broadway’s greatest songs. Past appearances include Christmas on Las Olas, Trick or Treat on 2nd Street, live television shows, Coffeehouse Cabarets and Broadway at the Beach. This session culminates with a performance in a Holiday Spectacular onstage in the Amaturo Theater. Class fee includes a Broward Center Spotlights t-shirt.

Note:

  • Auditions for the Broward Center Spotlights will be held, in-person, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Students will be notified of acceptance by e-mail
  • Decisions will be made by August 31. Once acceptance is announced, students must register for the Spotlights class at the Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center by September 5.
  • Classes are weekly from Sep 10–Nov 12, 2022
  • Additional rehearsals/performances are scheduled as community appearances are booked
  • Class fees apply.

ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP

In this advanced-level class, students develop their musical theater skills on a pre-professional level by strengthening techniques in singing, dancing, and acting. Each week students focus on specific skills and receive top-tier instruction from our teaching artist professionals. Students explore acting methods, script analysis and how to create strong characters. For dance, students work on stretching and flexibility as well as study various musical theater dance styles. The singing instruction focuses on expanding healthy vocal technique, learning music theory, and developing skills to build a character through song. Students integrate these skills and gain confidence as strong and engaging musical theater performers. This class culminates with a performance in an exciting new Holiday Spectacular in the Amaturo Theater.

PERFORMANCE MENTOR PROGRAM: ROALD DAHL’S WILLY WONKA TYA

GRADES: 4–12 | BY AUDITION ONLY | $415
THURSDAYS 6:00–9:00 PM & SATURDAYS 3:00–6:00 PM

Class dates: Sep 15–Dec 3, 2022

Mandatory extra rehearsal: Dec 7 & 8 from 6:00–10:00 PM
Show date: Dec 9 & 10

Advanced techniques in acting, singing and dance are integrated into the rehearsal process and culminate in a full-length musical production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka TYA. This unique performance experience offers students the opportunity to study and perform alongside adult professional actors. The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Fee includes script and costumes. This class is offered in partnership with The Performance Project School of the Arts.

  • Preferred audition date and time on the hour (example: Aug 29 at 6:00 PM)

  • You will receive an email to confirm the date and time of the audition and directions for what to bring and prepare
  • Audition results will be provided via email
  • Decisions will be made by August 31. Once acceptance is announced, students must register for Performance Mentor Program class at the Rose Miniaci Arts Education Center by September 5.
  • Able to attend all mandatory rehearsals and show dates.
