DESCRIPTION:This is a staged reading of a new play by Michael McKeever, Directed by Stuart Meltzer.In 1977 Miami, Florida, Dade County Commissioner Ruth Shack sponsored a pioneering ordinance banning discrimination against homosexuals. Over the next five months, a campaign led by singer Anita Bryant attempted to overturn the ruling. This battle transformed American gay rights activism and galvanized religious conservative efforts against the queer community. This is the story of the people behind the headlines.Presented with the support of SAVELGBTQ and part of the Amplify Arts Initiative.AMPLIFY ARTS is a Broward Center initiative which aims to support and elevate local artists and emerging arts organizations with the goal of helping them reach a wider audience and develop their skills as professional presenters.
