DRAMATIC PLAY: ENCHANTED TALES & DRAGON SCALES

Your child’s favorite fairy tales and tails come to life through creative play in this introductory acting class. Kids imagine, explore and create as they act out their own stories and adventures each week based on a different book focusing on dragons, knights, princesses and fairy tale adventures. Kids learn about story structure while increasing their vocabulary, self-esteem, creativity and problem-solving skills. Students learn to use their body, voice and imagination to save the world and create a happily ever after!

LET’S DANCE!

Grades: Pre-K and K
Saturdays 9:15 AM – 10:00 AM | $200

Class dates: 9/14-11/16

Kids dance out their favorite songs in this fun and energetic class that uses music, movement and props to develop creative expression. Each week, kids jam to a different Broadway or Disney classic like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Frozen and The Lion King while they learn exciting dance steps and simple combinations. Using imagination and creativity in class, kids develop a sense of independence and gain self-confidence.

INTRO TO MUSICAL THEATER

The dynamic world of musical theater is explored in this introductory skills-building class. Students develop the basics of singing, dancing and acting while learning songs and choreography from a wide range of popular Broadway musicals in a supportive environment. Students are trained in stage direction, dance steps and terminology, and healthy vocal production including breathing techniques, matching pitch and singing in an ensemble. Family and friends are invited to an open class during the semester. Two sessions of this class are recommended.

SING! DANCE! ACT!

Grades: 2–3
Saturdays 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM | $310

In this intermediate class, the primary focus is to teach students how to use all three skills within the context of a Broadway scene and song and perform each with technical skill, confidence, and strong stage presence appropriate to their age and grade level. Team-taught by a professional music director and a professional choreographer, students build upon the skills learned in Introduction to Musical Theater and continue to develop healthy singing through exercises and warm ups, vocal support and placement, choreography style for musical theater, characterization and expressive performance, stage principals, and maintain focus during acting games or scenes. This class may be taken more than once to develop existing talents and discover new abilities through skills-building activities and theater games in singing, dancing, and acting. This class culminates with a showcase for family and friends.

In this intermediate class, the primary focus is to teach students how to use all three skills within the context of a Broadway scene and song and perform each with technical skill, confidence, and strong stage presence appropriate to their age and grade level. Team-taught by a professional music director and a professional choreographer, students build upon the skills learned in Introduction to Musical Theater, while refining and expanding upon healthy singing exercises, breath control, simple harmonies, choreography style and sequences, stage presence, character creation and ensemble building. This class may be taken more than once to develop existing talents and discover new abilities. This class culminates with a showcase for family and friends.

ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP:
THE PILOT PRODUCTION OF TBD

Fall Session

The Broward Center has been selected by Music Theater International (MTI) to produce a pilot production of an upcoming MTI Title. As one of the first theaters in the country to produce the junior version of an upcoming hit Broadway show (prior to the show’s official release), we are offering students this unique opportunity to train as part of the pilot process. In the fall, students strengthen techniques in singing, dancing and acting in an advanced setting that will prepare them to audition for the Pilot Production in the spring. Fall students improve their singing by learning proper diction and projection techniques, how to harmonize and develop a character through song. Students also refine basic musical theater dance steps, explore physical awareness on stage and develop ability to quickly learn choreography. Students present the pilot performance of the selected MTI title onstage in the Amaturo Theater in the spring. All students must audition to be cast in the spring pilot production.

YOUTH FALL MUSICAL: ADDAMS FAMILY

In an all-encompassing theatrical experience, students learn acting, singing and dancing as well as production disciplines such as costumes, props, make-up and staging and use these skills to put on a final show. The Addams Family is the smash-hit musical comedy that brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and, of course, Lurch to spooky and spectacular life. With an infectious and unforgettable score, this musical is sure to entertain. This class is offered in partnership with The Performance Project School of the Arts. Fee includes script and basic costume.

LET'S PUT ON A SHOW! DISNEY’S ALADDIN KIDS

See your child perform in Disney’s Aladdin KIDS, the beloved musical adventure based on the iconic animated film. Join your favorite characters Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Genie, Jafar and more on a musical adventure filled with magic, mayhem and the power of love. Team-taught by an experienced vocal instructor/acting teacher and a professional choreographer, this class allows young students to explore the basics of acting, singing and dancing while experiencing the process of auditions, rehearsals and putting on scenes and songs from a show. Kids create wonderful memories on stage in the JM Studio Theater while having fun! Fee includes script and basic costume.

PERFORMANCE MENTOR PROGRAM: ANNIE

This unique performance experience offers students the opportunity to learn from, rehearse and perform alongside adult professional actors. This class culminate in a full-length musical production. The irrepressible comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world's best-loved musicals. Join little orphan Annie in a fun-filled adventure through New York City as she searches for the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage. Fee includes script and costumes. This class is offered in partnership with The Performance Project School of the Arts.
