Your child’s favorite stories come to life through creative play in this introductory acting class. Kids imagine, explore and create as they act out their own stories and adventures each week based on a different book—travel to outer space in a rocket ship, dive under the waves to meet mermaids or fly on the back of a dragon! Kids learn about story structure while increasing their vocabulary, self-esteem, creativity and problem-solving skills. Students learn to use their faces, body, voice and imagination as they turn their living room into a big adventure.

Show: Peter Pan
This class meets weekly on Zoom and has been specially designed to provide the
best possible virtual experience for your child. This class culminates in a virtual
final performance for friends and family to enjoy.

Let your imagination soar! Peter Pan and Tinker Bell carry you off to the enchanted Neverland where children never grow up! There you will find all the beloved characters of this classic adventure: Captain Hook, Lost Boys, Pirates, Tiger Lily and Mermaids of the Lagoon. Team-taught by experienced theater professionals, this virtual class allows young students the opportunity to explore the basics of acting and movement. Students will audition, rehearse and perform a play designed for Zoom.

The dynamic world of musical theater is explored in this introductory skills-building class. Students develop the basics of singing, dancing and acting while learning songs and choreography from a wide range of popular Broadway musicals in an introductory skills-building class taught by a vocal teacher and choreographer. Students are trained in stage direction, dance steps and terminology in addition to healthy vocal production including breathing techniques, matching pitch and rhythm. There will be a virtual sharing at the end of the session.

Zoom into the world of theater games and improv! Students explore the “fun”damentals of acting using interactive games and fun warmups in a supportive environment. Theater games teach valuable skills as students learn basic improv techniques, build confidence and stretch their imagination. Through improvisation work, students gain spontaneity, strengthen social interactions and learn effective listening and communication skills while having fun. All levels welcome.

YOUTH ACTING

This intermediate class helps build a strong performance foundation as students learn and review the fundamentals of acting. Participants engage in unique virtual learning experiences using dramatic play and interactive exercises while exploring improvisation, character development and analysis, text analysis (objectives, beats, tactics, etc.), observation, listening and making strong creative choices.

BROADWAY DANCE

Broadway Dance is the combination of ballet, jazz and modern dance styles performed in theaters using a blend of acting and singing. Students learn intermediate musical technique steps and then apply those steps to dance combinations from different Broadway songs. This class exposes students to new dance forms and choreography from major Broadway musicals. This class builds confidence as a musical theater dancer as you improve your ability to pick up choreography faster and excel in auditions. Basic dance skills recommended.

Advanced techniques in acting, singing and dance are integrated into the rehearsal process and culminate in a full-length musical production. Join Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim and a host of colorful characters for this traditional holiday tale.

Especially adapted for family audiences, this musical production of the Charles Dickens classic is a wonderful way to celebrate the season with the entire family. In this unique theatrical experience, students learn from and then perform alongside adult professional actors in the Amaturo Theater. Fee includes script and costumes.

YOUTH FALL MUSICAL: FAME JR.

In an all-encompassing theatrical experience, students learn acting, singing and dancing as well as production disciplines such as costumes, props, make-up and staging and use these skills to put on a final show in the Abdo New River Room. Set in New York City's High School for the Performing Arts, Fame JR. is the inspiring story of a diverse group of students who commit to four years of artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today. Fame JR. features a high-energy, contemporary pop score and a touching coming-of-age story. This class is offered in partnership with The Performance Project School of the Arts. Fee includes script and basic costume.

ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP

This class meets weekly on Zoom and has been specially designed to provide the
best possible virtual experience for your child.

In this advanced-level class, students develop their musical theater skills on a pre- professional level by strengthening techniques in singing, dancing and acting. Students take part weekly in small group breakouts focusing on a skill and provide the student with intensive study with each teaching artist professional. In acting breakouts, students explore various acting methods and learn script analysis and how to create strong characters. The dance breakout includes stretching and flexibility work, as well as instruction in various musical theater dance styles. Singing breakout focuses on improving vocal technique, learning music theory and developing skills to build a backstory for your song. As a result, students integrate these skills and gain confidence as a strong and engaging musical theater performer.

Auditions will be held during the final class for the Spring 2021 show - Title TBD.
