The State Symphony Orchestra of Russia prides itself on its legendary status, both in Russia and throughout the world.

The State Symphony Orchestra of Russia is an orchestra that represents one of the basic reference points of musical life both in Moscow and in Russia as a whole. For over 70 years it has been one of the leading orchestras of the country and is proud of its Russian culture. The State Orchestra of the USSR was founded in 1936 by decision of the Government and led by the legendary Alexander Gauk, a brilliant interpreter and phenomenal educator. Later on the Orchestra was headed by outstanding conductors. In 2002, Mark Gorenstein, National Artist of Russia, became chief conductor and artistic director of the Orchestra.

The January-February 2011 tour will feature pianist Dmitri Alexeev and violinist Sergei Girshenko performing programs including Brahms, Gluzunov and Tchaikovsky.
