Fort Lauderdale, FL – July 5, 2010 – Flamenco in the Sun 2010 returns in its eighth year with a rich calendar of events from July 17th through August 1st in several venues spanning traditional tablao, dance classes, film, dance concert, plus for the first time, a Sevillanas Dance Contest, and much more.
“If you thought there wasn’t much to experience culturally during the summer in South Florida, think again. Flamenco in the Sun 2010 offers something for everybody – starting with the Festival Opening, Café con Leche – free and open to the public -- on Saturday, July 17th from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the 1310 Gallery Artist Lofts, 1310 SW Second Court, Ft. Lauderdale. We start with a photographic exhibit of contemporary Flamenco by artist, Sharon Swift, and continue with the Festival Kick Off Flamenco Party, free to the public, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, July 22 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. There you can enjoy live music, tapas, wine and a Sevillanas Dance Contest,” said Damaris Ferrer, artistic director and producer of the two-week long festival.
Flamenco in the Sun has become one of the top cultural events of the summer in South Florida, in partnership with Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment in collaboration with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s exciting program includes, in addition to the photographic exhibit at 1310 Gallery and the Festival Kick Off Flamenco Party mentioned above:

• A week of exciting Master Classes from July 26th-30th by Antonio Granjero at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and, during the same week, a weeklong of children’s classes with Damaris Ferrer and Paola Escobar.
• Flamenco stories told through photographs and vintage costumes at the Historic New River Inn, opening on July 20th and running through August 2nd from noon to 4:00 PM daily. You can meet the artists, Carla and Miguel Ochoa, and Fina Escayola on Thursday, July 29th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
